Why Are Ye Fearful, O Ye Of Little Faith? (Feb 28, 2023)

I had it out with God the other day.

My patience is waning, & while I recognize others go through much worse things, I am growing weary of this storm & want to wallow & cower at the injustice of it all.

And in my own tempest-tossed boat, aka the bathroom floor, I essentially cried out, “Carest thou not that we perish??”

To the apostles onboard, He asked, “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” (Matt. 8:26)

And I’m like, WHY are they FEARFUL? They’re in the middle of a huge scary storm!

They personally knew Jesus, believed in Him, saw what He could do, & they were still afraid.

I know He rebukes the waves & brings calm to the seas in our lives. I have seen it. But sometimes in the midst of the storm, it’s SO hard to remember that.

And I just feel so afraid.

Watching my bright, sweet, bubbly, good, brave child go from one mental illness straight into another has brought unbelievable pain & fear. I could never have understood what others go through until confronted with these demons face to face. It’s been overwhelmingly eye-opening. I never knew. I just never knew. And while she is in recovery for one struggle- fighting SO hard to get there-, the other remains, its grasp clenching her tightly, getting worse by the day. She did not choose this.

Yes, I’m feeling my “little faith” right now.

And incredible compassion for others going through these things.

I have “built upon the rock” my whole life.

And though this storm is one I’ve never seen before, the rock still stands.

So I cling to it.

My little faith & I.

Knowing deep down in my soul that “No waters can swallow the ship where lies the Master of ocean & earth & skies.” (“Master, the Tempest is Raging”)

“Even in turbulent times, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is gritty & resilient… It prompts us to ask for rescue & relief as we pray to the Father in the name of His Son. And when prayerful pleas seem to go unanswered, our persistent faith in Jesus Christ produces patience, humility, & the ability to reverently utter the words ‘Thy will be done.’” (Lisa L. Harkness)

Peace, be still.
Peace, be still.

“He will calm your storms, for He has experienced them all.” (Dieter F. Uchtdorf)
