Faith in the Power of God (Sep 12, 2023)

Recently I read in the news about a lady who dispensed advice for years to her millions of “followers.”

But what was happening behind closed doors was a very different story.

As the truth came to light & she was arrested & charged for her despicable crimes, it was a good reminder that just because someone has “power” & “influence” & “followers” doesn’t mean you can trust them!

I love following people who build my faith. And I unfollow those who do not. But those influencers don’t need me… they have loads of followers eating up content that causes them to doubt or validate their beliefs/unbeliefs.

It’s frustrating, annoying, terrifying, yet unsurprising that so many base their faith in people rather than God. So many let others do their critical thinking for them. So many follow people who mingle feel-good words with false doctrine, glorifying themselves while criticizing the church, the prophet, & the sacred gospel of Christ. And soon what “so-and-so believes” (often a random stranger on the internet), takes precedence over the most credible source of all- God. The world is confusing, but I’m not going to rely on this person who happens to be good at Tik-Tok to guide my way or validate my beliefs.

I put my trust in Jesus Christ, in His restored gospel, & His prophet on the earth today. The language of the Spirit to my soul cannot be mistaken. It transcends physical science & worldly voices. It reaches through the fog & confusion. It brings me strength in my convictions & leads me to clarity in truth. No hashtags or algorithms needed.

Paul said, “And my speech & my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit & of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Cor. 2:4-5)

“The time is coming when … it will be difficult to tell the face of a Saint from the face of an enemy to the people of God. Then … look out for the great sieve, for there will be a great sifting time, & many will fall.” -Heber C. Kimball

“In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, & constant influence of the Holy Ghost.” -Pres. Nelson
