12 Days of Moments with Christ Day 10
My husband’s brother, his best friend, passed away from cancer a few years ago. We came home from the hospital that day emotionally and physically exhausted. Our brains couldn’t wrap around reality and our hearts were broken. We had barely any food in the house and I desperately needed to go shopping. Two friends of mine came by with pizza, which was so amazing. Then as evening approached, when I was literally gearing myself up to go to the store so we would have something to eat, another friend came by WITH GROCERIES, “just to get you by the next couple days.” We cried, because we knew with that inspired Christ-like action that God was watching out for us. I will never forget what those friends did that day, and many others afterwards who showed us their compassion in many ways.
Right after John the Baptist was brutally killed, Christ, surely mourning the loss of his cousin, compassionately reached out to others in need. Around 5000, to be exact.
He taught them.
And He fed them.
“And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them”
“And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said… Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.”
“He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat.” (Mark 6:34-37)
He performed the miracle of the loaves and the fishes, and all were filled.
We weren’t fed loaves and fishes, exactly. We had loaves and… pizza and milk and fruit and snacks and plenty of other things. And there were not 5000… just 2 parents and 6 kids.
But there was death.
And grief.
And compassion.
And hunger- a need that was filled.
And in it all was Christ.❤️
“I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)
