Walk with Me (Jan 31, 2026)
On day 1 of 3 snow days this week here in the Midwest, my 12-year-old went sledding on the neighborhood hill with one of his best friends. Just as I was starting to get worried about how long he’d been outside in the freezing temps, he returned at sunset, CHILLED to the bone. He hopped in the shower to warm up.
His friend’s mom then texted me, asking if her son was at our house. I felt a sudden alarm go through me. He was not at our house. Was he still outside? It was WAY too cold and dark to still be outside.
I asked my son through the bathroom door if he knew where his friend was because he didn’t make it home, just a couple houses down.
My son replied in surprise, “No, he was with me! We walked home together!“
And that kid jumped right out of the shower, pulled on some clothes, and RAN out the front door.
I shouted, “Where are you going?!”
He yelled back, “I gotta find him!”
He raced down the sidewalk before I had the chance to even tell him I could drive him or even to put on a coat! I’ll never forget his little silhouette in the snow.
Not one minute later, his friend’s mom texted that her son actually was back, so I didn’t need to worry.
Except now I was worrying about my own son!
After a few anxious minutes I saw him down the street and let him know his friend was home.
And my sweet boy came in and sobbed. He had been so worried about his friend. He was glad he was ok.
I’ve been thinking about this all week. My son not sparing a single second to look for his friend.
God told Enoch, “Thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.” (Moses 6:35)
“And Enoch walked with God” (Genesis 5:24)
Can you think of a better walking companion?
We get to walk with Him, too.
If we draw near to Him, He draws near to us. He invites us to walk with Him, abide with Him, bind to Him. When we do, our path becomes a sacred, covenant one. And if we get separated, if we lag behind, as we sometimes do, He will RACE to find us. Even in the dark. Even in the cold. Because He’s in it with us. And we are worth it.
“He will find you.
He will rescue you.
He will carry you home.” (Elder Uchtdorf)
