To Heal the Brokenhearted (Feb 13, 2023)
Recently I felt my child & I were coming to the end of a very difficult road. I felt relief & happiness as I thought of how far we’ve come. I was like, I think we are on the other side of this trial now! God answers prayers!
But instead of finding the end of that road, I realized we were at the bottom of a ginormous hill.
Um, WHAT.
And I took my figurative “book of parenting” & THREW IT OUT THE WINDOW cause this new obstacle is unlike anything I’ve experienced as a mom & I’m coming up empty on how to help my child climb this thing.
She is distraught.
And my heart aches.
What about the prayers?
We plead for healing, & we read of Christ healing fevers, diseases, lepers, casting out demons. His power is real. I believe this.
But… when is her time?
Why bother praying & praying for something when we know it will just be done in His time, anyway? What's the point?
I don't have all the answers. I do know prayers turn us to Him. And what other answer do I need? PRAYER TURNS US TO GOD. And why does He want us to turn to Him? SO HE CAN BLESS US. Yes our “plans" for ourselves might look different from His sometimes- but we HAVE to trust that He hears us & knows what's best. Of course we still can ask for the desires of our hearts! But He isn’t a genie. I guess that is what faith is all about.
We just watched The Chosen season 3 episode 2 tonight. WOW. The scene where Jesus is talking to Little James, who is disabled, asking why Christ hasn’t healed him yet- so powerful! I cried.
“You still praise God in spite of this."
Some are not healed right away.
Some are not meant to… yet.
Meanwhile He strengthens & carries & heals our broken hearts until the other stuff catches up.
I cannot forget where we were when this trial began. HAS healing happened? Yes! WERE prayers answered? Absolutely! Are we done?
No.
But we go forth feeling His balm on our wounds.
Truly, we do.
“He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted… This day is this scripture fulfilled” (Luke 4:18, 21)
This day.
Where is the “miracle”? I don’t know.
When will He help us? Today.
“For we have heard him ourselves, & know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.” (John 4:42)
