That Ye May Be Able to Stand (Oct 17, 2023)

I’m the primary music leader & a couple weeks ago I brought in Bob the Warrior. AKA a cutout of a guy with armor.

Kids took turns picking a piece of the “armor of God” to put on Bob, & then crumpled up a paper with one of Satan’s lies/“fiery darts” written on it, & threw it at Bob.

Bob’s armor protected him, of course!

Then we refuted Satan’s lies with songs! With truth & spirit & primary program practice! 😁

Well, as sometimes happens in primary, it became a little toooo fun (balancing fun & reverence is hard 🙈) & one enthusiastic kid REALLY chucked that fiery dart, resulting in every piece of Bob’s armor exploding off him as he crashed to the ground.

The kids burst into laughter, & I’m like, uhhh that wasn’t supposed to happen!

In an attempt to spin this disastrous moment into a spiritual one, I quickly announced to the kids that SOMETIMES maybe we feel like Bob! Sometimes we fall. Sometimes our armor comes off… for whatever reason.

But GUESS WHAT. Bob did not stay down. Nope! He got back up!! Put his armor back on. Prepared for the next attack!

I thought about it later, & had to laugh about the backfired activity. But… things don’t go as planned sometimes. Definitely in primary 😂, but also in life. And I believe what I said.

Sometimes those fiery darts hit HARD.

Sometimes we forget our sword of the spirit, our shield of faith.

Sometimes we aren’t perfect. And Satan gets a few points in.

Sometimes we get knocked to the ground.

We fall.

But we can GET BACK UP.

Put the pieces back together.

Prepare for battle again.

Because we know whose side we’re on. And He won’t leave us alone if we choose Him.

It’s our choice.

Wear the armor.

And stand.

“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, & having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve” (Joshua 24:15)

“Be strong & of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:9)
