12 Days of Christmas Songs Day 4
I absolutely love this song by The National Parks. It’s easy to think “did this really happen?” not only in regard to the nativity, but anything that requires faith. God can feel so far. But then come those flashes of light, & heaven is so near. The impossible becomes possible. Myth becomes reality. Far away is not so far.
My college-age daughter was far away last night, in a state she’d never been, in a hotel that was not planned, due to an unexpected storm & plane landing, as she tried to come home for Christmas. She was distraught as she navigated options to get home. My husband was on the phone with her for hours as he helped her figure things out.
She was far away. Alone.
But not really alone.
I couldn’t help but think of our loving Heavenly Father waiting on the other end of the line for us as we navigate unplanned storms, stops, & detours on our way home. Like me, all He wants is for his kid to make it back home! He’d do anything to help us, comfort us, guide us. My daughter did make it home, tired, but feeling capable & extra grateful. I hugged her extra tight!
Far away… but a little closer today. ❤️
Far Away
“I was young when I heard
I opened the book and read the words
Stories of a star up in the sky
A far off place, a baby child born to be the light
And the wise men came
And the angels sang
Hallelujah
‘Cause far away
Is born a little child
Far away
The Savior of Mankind
The Prince of Peace, The King of Kings born in a manger
Far away
Seems a little closer today
And when I’m old I’m hoping to
Sit by the tree in my living room
Tell stories of a star up in the sky, a far off place, a baby child
And like the wise men I will ask
What can I bring
When the angels sing
Hallelujah?
‘Cause far away is born a little child
Far away
The Savior of Mankind
The Prince of Peace, The King of Kings born in a manger
Far away
Seems a little closer today
And the angels sing
Hallelujah
‘Cause far away
Is born a little child
Far away
The Savior of Mankind
The Prince of Peace, The King of Kings born in a manger
Far away
Can be a little closer
Far away
Come a little closer
Far away seems a little closer today”
