12 Days of Moments with Christ Day 5

I was going to school at BYU-Idaho in 2002 when President Gordon B. Hinckley came to dedicate the new Hinckley building. It was, of course, a huge deal to all of us students to have the prophet come! President Hinckley had already made quite the impact on my teenage years and I’d received many witnesses to my heart that he was a prophet.

After he gave the words he’d prepared, he said he wanted to keep speaking to us students. He told us, “First I want to tell you that I love you.” He paused, and continued, “I love you kids!” He softly chuckled. Then he choked up and began to cry. He was silent for a few seconds, trying to control his emotions. He just... cried! Then again, “You wonderful young people of this church, I love you.” ❤️

It was so powerful and sweet, sincere and profound, and it impacted all of us; we all just cried with him. His expression of love was so personal and straight from his heart to our hearts. Just to know this great man of God loved us, wow. It was a powerful moment. He continued on and gave us the cutest and most positive and real advice, in only the way President Hinckley could (you should look it up, k), urging us and believing in us to be our best selves.

I felt God’s love. I felt my Savior’s love.

From heaven’s mouth to our ears, an adorable and earnest old man, prophet, seer, and revelator, our messenger of love and divine worth.

“I will encircle thee in the arms of my love” (D&C 6:20).
