Jesus Christ Sees People Deeply: Day 9

On the 9th day of Christmas, Christ gave me... Eyes to See.

One of the things I love most about Jesus is the way He noticed everyone. Not only noticed them, but saw them deeply. He understood their situation. He knew their worth, their potential, their heart.

For the past 9 months, I’ve volunteered at the local food pantry.

One day a young woman came in SO excited & happy. I curiously watched her run up to the lady in charge & give her a huge hug. She was glowing! Then I learned this girl’s story. A few months earlier she had come in at her absolute lowest. She was struggling big-time. When a volunteer discovered she was sleeping on the streets, he went around the pantry right then, gathered cash from other volunteers, went to Walmart, & bought her a nice sleeping bag😭 No judgment. Just kindness.

She got back on her feet. She turned her life around. And she was SO excited to tell everyone how she was doing. I heard her say, "This place changed my life! And as soon as I can, I'm going to volunteer here & give back!"

Pres. Monson said, "You have the capacity to notice the unnoticed. When you have eyes to see, ears to hear, & hearts to feel, you can reach out & rescue others."

She had been seen. And it changed her life.

Zacchaeus in Luke 19 was also seen. Jesus was just "pass[ing] through Jericho. "A rich tax collector, Zacchaeus, “sought to see Jesus" but could not see through the crowd because he was too short!

So he RUNS to a tree & climbs it. Was he expecting Jesus to see him? To stop? To speak to him? To invite Himself over to his house to hang out?! Probably not! But that is what happened!

Jesus looked up! He saw the man in the tree. Invited him down. And Zacchaeus "made haste, & came down, & received him joyfully."

Others judged Jesus for speaking with “a sinner.”

But Jesus didn’t care. He knew Zacchaeus' good heart.

He had been seen. And it changed his life. "For the Son of man is come to seek & to save that which was lost."❤️

He seeks us. Because we’re worth finding.

May we have eyes to see as He did. As He does.

"Jesus Christ sees people deeply. He sees individuals, their needs, & who they can become." (Michelle Craig)
