Stand in Holy Places

Twice this last week I have been in a bustling, busy, “worldly” place. No podium. No stained glass. No steeples. No mountains, roses, sunrises, or any other indication of a “holy place.”

And yet. As conversation turned toward holy things, I felt God fill that very spot.

“But my disciples shall stand in holy places, and shall not be moved” (D&C 45:32)

I love traditional “holy places.”

But I also “love to make holy the places where [I] stand.” (Elder Massimo De Feo)

There is a profound little book by Sister Virginia H. Pearce called “Where Heaven Meets You.” I’ve read it multiple times.

She speaks of the Celtic expression “thin places.”

“A thin place is where the veil that separates heaven and earth is nearly transparent. It is a place where we experience a deep sense of God’s presence in our everyday world... where the door between this world and the next is cracked open for a moment; And the light is not all on the other side”

Sometimes it cracks open in unexpected places.

Driving in a snowstorm. A sterile hospital room. A trampoline. Eating chips and salsa in a restaurant. Walmart checkout line. Treadmill. A room cluttered by piles of laundry. Gas station. Chick-Fil-a drive-thru...

“Nothing and no one can prevent us...from having experiences with God... He can fill us with His love and power anywhere, anytime”

Obviously we want to seek those dedicated holy places! But we can also create holy places...

Right where we are.

“If we are faithful to the covenants we make with God in His holy house, we literally bring His priesthood power into our environments”

Every one of us, if we want it, has the potential and privilege of carrying divine power.

Because, as Sister Pearce so beautifully states, “God’s light doesn’t stay in those thin places- it flows into our souls. We assimilate it and take it with us. Yes, the place and space is sacred, but more sacred are we- the vessels who carry His power.”

The PLACE is sacred, but MORE SACRED ARE WE.💕

His light & love live in us. Be not moved.
